Hosted by Experimental Action - Houston’s International Performance Art Biennial - this five day-day program runs from April 7th - 11th and brings together over 30 participants from Houston, Texas, US, and around the world.
We will tackle topics like gender, the environment, human trafficking, mental wellness, and many others through panel discussions, performances, and academic presentations in a way that catalyzes discussion and Action!
Tuesday, April 7th, 8:00 pm Notsuoh (314 Main Street): Join our Carnival-inspired protest march and experience experimental performance practices that interrogate our political world. Curated by Julia Claire Wallace
Thursday, April 9th: Liberation! Performance, 6:00 pm Blaffer Museum (University of Houston): Send postcards to elected officials, be a contestant in a political performance game, and participate in the Revolution of the Mommies. Curated by Julia Claire Wallace and facilitated by Melissa Noble
Friday, April 10th and Saturday, April 11th: Revolution! Conference, Holocaust Museum Houston (5401 Caroline Street): Scholars, activists, and artists put their heads together to consider what constitutes political action and how can we transform our shared world. Inspired by philosopher Hannah Arendt. Coordinated by Parish Conkling.
Friday, April 10th, Anti-human trafficking advocacy and creative practices, 7:00 pm, A 2nd Cup (1111 East 11th Street): Join moderator Francois Pointeau (Radar Talk Intimate) and panelists Dr. Jim Ball (Texas A&M University), Jennifer Decker (Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company), Dr. Kerry Ward (Rice University), and A 2nd Cup as they discuss organizations, practices, and projects that address the issue of human trafficking.
Saturday, April 11th: Freedom! Performance, 7:30 pm Holocaust Museum Houston, Albert and Ethel Herzstein Theater: Social Movement Dance Company addresses appropriation and appreciation. Julia Barbosa Landois questions our commitment to the environment. Sierra Ortega tackles mental illness. Miranda Zapata explores the lives of women of color. Sarah Sudhoff memorializes Life Flight.
