Marcel P, Black (Baton Rouge, LA)
https://marcelpblack.bandcamp.com/
Marcel P. Black is more than just a rapper....Emcee. Activist. Writer. Spoken Word Artist. DJ. Promoter. Businessman. Youth Develpment Worker. Revolutionary. Father. Husband...As one of the leaders of the Baton Rouge Hip-Hop scene (hailing originally from Oklahoma), Black, 30 years old, is one of the few "conscious" voices left that's not afraid to use music as a conduit to empowerment. Black creates music that speaks to the everyday person going through the struggle. "I try to take serious socio-political content and deliver it in an everyday fashion over hard hitting production that the average brother on the corner can feel," says Black, "because these are the people I'm speaking too. I gotta run it to where they feel me."
Dirty & Nasty (Houston, TX)
https://dirtynasty.bandcamp.com/
High-energy, intellectual hip-hop powered by infectious beats & prolific prose for a laid-back throwback sound like Public Enemy & Run The Jewels meet The Beastie Boys on holiday. Comprised of Dirty Dog D (D3) & OG Nasty Nique (The Texas Chainsaw). These SXSW Converse Rubber Tracks Alumni have ripped the stage from FPSF to the streets of Atlanta during A3C. A laid back style mixed with the coolness of raw power. Sounds like Public Enemy & Run the Jewels meets EPMD on holiday in Rap's New World.
Blaze & Black (Houston, TX)
https://www.blazeandblack.com/
These thirtysomething guys have accomplished a lot in the small time they’ve been together. They’ve performed at SXSW, snagged a Readers’ Choice Award from the Houston Press Music Awards in 2016 and were given their own day — August 4th — by the mayor a year later. The day came about thanks to their years of previously doing an internet radio show (called “The Blaze X Black Show,” of course) where they interviewed local entrepreneurs, visionaries, political figures and even many of the female, African-American judges who were historically elected in Harris County last November. “I think out of the 18-19,” says Black, “we had probably 16 on our show.”
Ill Will (Houston, TX)
https://youtube.com/illwillification
ILL WILL is a music artist from Houston, TX. In 2004, he began to express his multiple artistic abilities through the form known as Hip-Hop. Inspired by watching classic episodes of 106 & Park & Rap City, ILL WILL began to understand more about Hiphop and through the learning of the music world, he would find his swag! ILL WILL not only records, mixes, and masters his own projects, but he also produces many of his own tracks, a talent he began to cultivate back in 2007, some of which can be found on his social network sites.
