"Today, HM is proud to premiere the newest single from Coastlands, “Quiet Beneath the Yangtze River.” The track comes from an as-yet-unnamed upcoming release from the band, currently scheduled for this summer. The instrumental group from Portland, OR has been together eight years, forming in 2010, previously releasing To Be Found, a six-song LP in 2016. The band formed as a folk project between guitarist Jason Sissoyev and former member Nick Fisher, which, at night, began to take the form of an instrumental project.
We spoke with Sissoyev about the new song:
“‘Quiet beneath the Yangtze River’ is a song inspired by the events surrounding the 1954 flooding of the Yangtze river. We read a poem titled ‘Swimming’ that envisioned the grim future of the town. We all latched heavily onto the imagery and began to write melodies and build a song structure around those events. The song title wasn’t finalized until the song was completely written/recorded and serves as a finale to the narrative we built.”
The new album will be supported by a tour, as well. The band will be playing a mix of old and new material on the road."
